Spicy Spooky Sausage Rolls – Halloween Recipe

Spicy Spooky Sausage Rolls – Halloween Party Recipe

On the 31st October the eve of Allhallows or Halloween as it is more commonly known, ghosts, ghoulies and the living dead roam the earth in search of a good party.

Every good Halloween party has an array of good food to tempt the scary guests.

This recipe for spicy sausage rolls is easy to make and will tickle the taste-buds of spooks of all ages.

Ingredients For Sausage Rolls

3-4 red chilli’s according to your taste and heat tolerance.

500 g good quality pork sausage meat. (you can remove the skin from your favourite sausages and use the meat for this recipe if you prefer).

1/2 tsp smoked paprika.

2 tbsp freshly chopped coriander

1/2 tsp ground cumin

500 g ready made shortcrust or puff pastry according to preference.

2 free-range egg yolks.

1 tsp freshly ground black pepper.

Making Sausage Rolls

Preheat your oven to 180C/gas 4

Finely chop the chilli’s in a food processor with the onion and coriander

Spoon the chilli mix into a large bowl add the sausage meat, cumin, and the smoked paprika. Combine well until all ingredients are evenly distributed through the sausage meat

On a clean working surface, sprinkle some flour, to stop the pastry from sticking when rolling.

Divide the pastry into two, then roll out into 2 strips, approx. 50cm x 15cm each.

By hand, form the the sausage meat into 2 long sausage shapes and place one along the middle of each strip. (see pic. below)

Brush the edges of the pastry either side of the sausage meat with the beaten egg. Fold the pastry over to meet the opposite edge and press down to seal.

Glaze the long sausage rolls with the egg wash, sprinkle with black pepper and sea salt. Cut the sausage rolls into approximately 5cm lengths and place on a non-stick baking sheet.

Bake the spicy spooky sausage rolls in the middle of the pre-heated oven for about 20 minutes or until golden .

Remove from oven and place on a wire rack to cool.
